Lindos is an archaeological site, a village of unique beauty on the east coast of Rhodes Island, 45 kms away from Rhodes town. Lindos was founded by the Dorians led by the king Tlepolemos of Rhodes, who arrived in about 1000 BC. It was one of the six Dorian cities in the area known as the Dorian Hexapolis.

In the 6th Century when was ruled by Kleovoulos, one of the seven Sages of ancient Greece, became one of the richest cities-states of the Aegean.

Today, above the modern village rises the famous Castle of Lindos, A natural citadel which was fortified successfully by the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the knights of St. John and the Ottomans. On the top of the Castle, dominates, overlooking the bay of Lindos and St. Pauls bay the ancient temple of Lindia Athena.

The village it’s self has many historic houses ( known as “Captain’s Houses” ) often dating from the 16th, 17th, or 18th century.

The charm of Lindos is maintained by a preservation order which forbids any unauthorized building work to change it.

And as the regular visitors of Lindos, who come back every year, say : "Lindos is its' Rock"…
